' Elegy '
by Thaddeus Hutyra
She was an eagle high flying in the blue sky
my Bengal tigress in the wilderness of a jungle
a buoyant lioness on the African savannah
skittish roe-deer in the last breath of sunset
but now she's gone with the wind, no more
She was my evergreen Pōhutukawa tree
spacious and extensive, lovely Common ash
red pine, a coniferous tree, lovers' haven
giving me lots of escape from a day heat
but now she's gone with the wind, no more
She was my most precious seaside beach
somewhere there on the far Oriental Bay
my vast land adorned by wild growing flowers
on whose lovely womb I could rest my head
but now she's gone with the wind, no more
She was my botanical garden paradise alike
inclusive variety of begonias in all their hues
my Rose Garden, my God's Garden of Eden
featuring Amber Flush, Mary Rose, Charlottes
but now she's gone with the wind, no more
She was finally my most loving woman in red
most caring, heavenly sensual beauty on Earth
my love only love, my life only life, my heartbeat
my everlasting desires, my ticket to Heavens
but now she's gone with the wind, no more
Shall I ever find another beauty as she was ?
Shall I ever love another woman as much as her ?
Shall I ever be as happy as I was with her ?
Say, say, what should I do at this crossroads
Say, say, what should be my new path of life
